This position will operate alongside numerous crew members and under the direct daily supervision of a Foreman who provides guidance and feedback for all paving projects.  We are looking for a self-motivated individual who values safety and collaboration as top priorities to serve as a member of the Coastal Asphalt family!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drives and operates distributor truck equipped with tank to spray asphalt emulsions and/or liquid AC on road surfaces
  • Connects hose from storage tank to truck tank and moves lever to fill tank with asphalt liquids
  • Regulate burner to heat liquid and start auxiliary pump
  • Snap or screw on spray bars to attain required width of spray
  • Turn valve to regulate flow of material at specified rate and adjust levers to adjust height of spray bar from road surface
  • Monitor flow gages, tachometer and temperature gauge to insure uniform distribution
  • Perform daily safety checks of fluid levels on oil, water, fuel and inspections for leaks and damage to machine before operation
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working order
  • Responsible for notifying supervisor if equipment needs to be repaired
  • Understand and execute different emulsions and/or liquid AC • Shifts may vary according to project demands
  • Ensure all workspaces remain clean and free of hazards and debris at all times
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Perform daily tasks assigned by crew leader and Foreman correctly and promptly
  • Implement corrections given from crew leader and Foreman
  • Unload and load materials and equipment prior to beginning each project and upon exiting the jobsite

Position Requirements

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) A or B with N-tanker & X-hazmat endorsement is preferred
  • DOT medical card indicating passing exam results
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with the flexibility to travel to various job sites within South Carolina and surrounding areas if necessary
  • Must possess a driving record that meets company standards
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred
  • Traffic control experience preferred
  • Must pass an authorized drug test prior to employment
  • Must meet company employment requirements including but not limited to background checks
  • Must agree to adhere to Drug-Free Workplace requirements including post-accident and random drug testing
  • Must maintain an acceptable attendance and safety record
  • Must have the ability to carry and lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, reach with hands and arms, crouch and kneel as required
  • Must be able to enter and exit equipment safely
