Time has a way of slowly slipping away from us.

That is the case with the unexpected passing of our team member and friend, Randy Lewis Gaskins.

Affectionally known as “Rooster,"  Gaskins was a lead man on our asphalt and paving crews.

“He pretty much did it all,” said Milling Supervisor Pat Jones.

GaskinsRandy Rooster250A brief illness caused his untimely death May 26. Rooster, originally from Coward, S.C., leaves behind a wife, three sons, many family members, and a host of friends.

Pat remembers Rooster for his humility, kindness, and readiness to lend a hand.

“He would always go out of his way to help,” Pat said. “He was a very, very good guy. He would have given you anything he had.”

His personality and positive attitude was a light to his coworkers. If a project would get difficult, because of the weather for example, Rooster would encourage the rest of the crew and say, “Let’s get the job done,” Pat remembers fondly.

It was his devotion to his sons, though, that Pat remembers most about Rooster.

“More than anything, he loved his children,” Pat said.
