Asphalt Patching Foreman
Job Duties of a Patching Foreman:
Supervise Asphalt Patching Crew:
- Oversee the daily operations of the patching crew, ensuring safety protocols, productivity, and quality standards are met.
- Review each job daily with project superintendent and know/understand what the pay items are and what daily goals should be
- Assign tasks to crew members based on skills and project needs.
- Communicate to the crew members the daily goals and ensure that crew members are working efficiently and effectively throughout the day to meet those goals
- Qualified candidates must be able to run a paver. Two years of experience in asphalt is preferred.
Quality Control and Inspection:
- Inspect the quality of the asphalt, ensuring it meets project specifications, including proper thickness, compaction, and smoothness.
- Perform regular checks on equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and performing optimally.
- Address any quality concerns during the patching process and make adjustments as necessary.
Ensure Compliance with Safety Regulations:
- Ensure all team members adhere to safety standards and guidelines to minimize workplace accidents.
- Monitor work areas to ensure proper use of safety equipment like hardhats, safety vest, and eye/ear protection are used when needed.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and address any safety concerns promptly.
Coordinate with Project Manager and Other Teams:
Communicate with the project manager to ensure that project timelines, budgets, and goals are being met.
Coordinate with other construction crews, or the asphalt plant to maintain workflow and prevent delays.
Manage Equipment and Materials:
- Oversee the proper use and maintenance of patching equipment like rollers, Mini Excavator, Trucks, Hand Tools and Saws. (report any breakdowns to and maintenance issue to shop and record in fleet maintenance program)
- Ensure materials, such as asphalt, are delivered on time and meet the project’s requirements.
- Ensure that trucks are being used efficiently with no wasted hours.
Troubleshoot and Solve Issues:
- Identify and resolve problems with equipment, materials, or personnel to keep the project on track.
- Handle unexpected issues that may arise during patching operations, including weather conditions, machinery breakdowns, or material shortages.
Track Project Progress:
- Monitor daily progress and report the status of the project to supervisors and managers.
- Ensure that work is completed on time and within budget.
- Document work completed, hours worked, and materials used daily on timesheets.
Train and Mentor Workers:
- Provide guidance, training, and support to new crew members or less experienced workers.
- Teach proper techniques for patching asphalt, operating equipment, and following safety protocols.
Maintain Records:
- Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and safety inspections.
- Submit daily logs and reports as required by management or clients.
