Time has a way of slowly slipping away from us.
That is the case with the unexpected passing of our team member and friend, Randy Lewis Gaskins.
Affectionally known as “Rooster," Gaskins was a lead man on our asphalt and paving crews.
“He pretty much did it all,” said Milling Supervisor Pat Jones.
A brief illness caused his untimely death May 26. Rooster, originally from Coward, S.C., leaves behind a wife, three sons, many family members, and a host of friends.
Pat remembers Rooster for his humility, kindness, and readiness to lend a hand.
“He would always go out of his way to help,” Pat said. “He was a very, very good guy. He would have given you anything he had.”
His personality and positive attitude was a light to his coworkers. If a project would get difficult, because of the weather for example, Rooster would encourage the rest of the crew and say, “Let’s get the job done,” Pat remembers fondly.
It was his devotion to his sons, though, that Pat remembers most about Rooster.
“More than anything, he loved his children,” Pat said.

On October 8th Hurricane Matthew ripped across the coastal regions of the Southeast leaving behind devastating impacts. In the days and weeks that followed, residents from all over our state, but specifically along the coast, were forced to deal with the aftermath. Whether it was downed tree debris, washouts from flooding, sinkholes in roadways or even beach erosion, Coastal Asphalt made a commitment to our local communities and to our clients to immediately provide assistance in restoring both their neighborhoods and our beaches.
In Myrtle Beach, Coastal Asphalt played a role in the restoration of beach dunes along Myrtle Beach Travel Park (see video below) and Sea Watch Resort.
In Pawleys Island, our crews spent weeks providing storm cleanup for local communities and businesses including:

This is our recent sealing and striping project of the parking lot at The Giant Crab Restaurant in Myrtle Beach, S.C. We proudly use GuardTop sealcoating products, the gold standard in asphalt protection.
We are excited to be in the beginning stages of Pawleys Sunset, a new community coming to Pawleys Island. We are connecting to the main sewer lines, installing water and sewer lines for each new home, handling service connections, putting manholes in place and eventually will be adding stormwater drains as well as adding roadways and paving. It’s great to grow with our community!

Watch this fast and furious, 22-hour paving project for Chick-fil-A in Myrtle Beach. We started our work after closing on Saturday night, and continued through Sunday evening, allowing Chick-fil-A to get a new parking lot with no interruption of business!
Work included: •Milling 2 inches of old asphalt and disposing of offsite •Full depth milling in problem areas and repairing of sub-grade •Cleaning of asphalt, applying tack and paving with 2 inches of hot-mix asphalt •Laying out and painting of parking lot with one thin coat, with a followup on a later Sunday to install final coat of paint.
